Public Health Act, 1936, gives power to deal with nuisances
arising from the occupation as human habitations of tents, etc. and
also to make Byelaws.
Section 109 of the Essex County Council Act, 1933, prohibits
the use of moveable dwellings without the consent of the Council
provided they are intended to be used for an unbroken period of
three months and are to be the sole means of habitation.
Section 110 gives a Local Authority power to provide camping
grounds.
In this District section 269 of the Public Health Act, 1936, is
not in force owing to the provisions of the Essex County Council
Act. No sites for camping have been licensed by the Council nor
have licences been issued to individuals.
There were two small privately owned camping grounds in the
District which were used for the erection of tents during the summer
months.
The estimated number of campers resident in the area at one
time during the summer season was 150 persons.
The camps were visited periodically and the powers of the Byelaws
were used to ensure sanitary conditions.
