CARAVANS
CARAVAN SITES & CONTROL OP DEVELOPMENT ACT - 1960
There Is now only one licensed caiavan site in the Borough. This is at a site
at Brockley Hill, Stanmore, and is for one caravan only. The conditions attached
to the licence were in process of being complied with at the close of the year.
A site at Brent Park Road, N.W.9. is used only for winter Quarters by members
of the Showman's Guild of Great Britain and so is exempt from the provisions of
the Act relating to site licences.
Town Planning Enforcement action is being taken in respect of caravans which
were placed during the year on land adjoining the North Circular Road, N.W.2.
Action also has to be taken from time to time to remove caravans from the
grass verge and a service road at the North Circular Road, N.W.2. The owners
of these caravans are usually engaged in scrap metal dealing and car breaking and
frequently leave accumulations of unwanted rubbish and other filth behind.
Although commonly referred to as gypsies, the shiftless population of these
caravans have no connection with or semblance of that respected race. On one
occasion a group of such caravans could not be "moved-on" as the entire adult
male population was remanded in custody.
One hundred and seventy visits were made by the Public Health Inspectors to
caravans during the Year.
