Swimming Baths
There are two swimming baths within the district owned by the Local Authority,
one at West Hendon and one at Mill Hill,
Visits are paid by the Public Health Inspectors and samples taken of the water
particularly during hot weather when the baths are most frequently used.
Twenty-one samples taken from the Municipal Swimming Baths were all satisfactory.

Hairdressers and Barbers.
Forty-four inspections were made in connection with the Byelaws made under
Section 282 of the Middlesex County Council Act, 1944.
Prevention of Damage by Pests Act, 1949 - Rodent Control.
Rodent destruction in dwellinghouses and business premises is carried out by a
foreman, three full-time and one part-time operatives working under the supervision
of the Public Health Inspectors and in accordance with recommendations of the Ministry
of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. Treatment of sewers is carried out by the Borough
Engineer and Surveyor's Department.
In the case of dwellinghouses, treatment is undertaken by the Local Authority
free of charge, while in the case of business premises a charge, based upon time,
cost of materials and overhead expenses, is made.
In a small number of cases occupiers of business premises and agricultural
holdings engage a servicing firm to carry out periodical treatment.
During the year under review it was found necessary to serve one notice under
Section 4 of the Act. This was complied with and legal proceedings were not necessary.
A report on the work carried out for the year ended 31st December, 1957, is
given in the following table, which is based on the return sent to the Ministry of
Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
