INFECTIVE HEPATITIS.
OUTBREAK IN A JUNIOR SCHOOL IN THE BOROUGH.
A major outbreak of infective hepatitis occurred in a junior school in the
Borough during the period November 1955 to February 1956. Twenty-seven cases,
including one member of the staff, were reported in the school which is attended by
509 children.
Jaundice had been occurring in the neighbourhood for some time and in a nearby
infants school eleven cases had been reported at infrequent intervals during a period
of fourteen months.

In the junior school the epidemic was more virulent and cases were distributed evenly throughout the different age groups, classes and sexes, The children were absent from school as follows:-
