carried out work in this field even before that date. I am
glad to see that provision exists in the National Health Service
Act, 1946, for the continuance of this work.
It is particularly gratifying to be able to report that this
low rate is being maintained despite the unsatisfactory housing
conditions under which many members of the population and
particularly the younger families are now living.
