MATERNITY AND CHILD WELFARE.
The Maternity and Child Welfare Services continued to expand, 54,962
attendances being made by children at the Centres as compared with 49, 960 in the
previous year. This is particularly satisfactory, and showed a sustained
interest on the part of the mothers, when one considers the difficulties which
they must now experience in attending with their children at the Centres.
For the convenience of the mothers on the Broadfields Estate a child
welfare session was established at St, Andrews Church Hall. The number of mothers
who took advantage of those facilities soon necessitated two sessions weekly being
held at these premises.
The care of Expectant and Nursing Mothers.
The number of births showed a slight increase as did the number of
individual attendances of expectant mothers at the ante-natal clinics, but the
total number under supervision fell slightly from 1619 in 1942 to 1593 in 1943.
