NON-NOTIFIABLE INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
MEASLES, WHOOPING COUGH, CHICKEN POX, MUMPS, ETC.
The prevalence of these diseases cannot be accurately
determined, the primary indicate being the number of cases
occurring amongst elementary school children, as each week
the head teachers supply a return of all known cases. The
numbers reported during the year were as follows:—
Measles 367
Mumps 264
Whooping Cough 126
Chicken pox 309
DISINFECTION.
Disinfection of the bedding, clothing and premises is
carried out after removal to hospital or recovery of a homenursed
case of a notifiable disease.
Bedding and clothing are removed from the infected
houses before disinfection of the house itself is begun and are
conveyed to the Disinfecting Station at the Isolation Hospital
for treatment in a Thresh Patent Current—Steam Disinfect.
Infected houses are disinfected with formalin diffused in
the form of a spray.
The following statement shows the work carried out
during the year:—
665 infected rooms and places disinfected.
15 infected rooms cleansed by stripping off wall
papers and washing off ceilings.
623 library books collected of which number 598 were
returned to houses or libraries from which they were
issued and 25 were destroyed.
VACCINATION.
The Vaccination Acts are administered by the Middlesex
County Council, and I am indebted to Mr. A. E. Taylor, the
Vaccination Officer, for the table of vaccination which
follows:—
