separated by partial or complete wood and glass partitions,
and the accommodation altogether is rather
cramped. In All Saints' School the cloakrooms are
simply partitioned off the corridors and the corridors are
rather dark.
In St. Mary's R.C. School the cloakrooms are small
and ill-lighted and the Infants' Cloakroom is a rather
dilapidated shed in the playground.
In St. Mary's C.E. School and St. Agnes' R.C.
School the conditions are very good.
Desks and Blackboards.—
Satisfactory dual desks and suitable blackboards
throughout the schools.
Lavatory Basins.—
Generally speaking, the provision is very good. In
St. Paul's School the lavatory basins are in the latrines,
which is not a desirable situation. In All Saints' Schooil
there are two compartments each with one lavatory basin
partitioned off the corridor, which can hardly be considered
sufficient or satisfactory.
Sanitary Conveniences.—
These vary considerably in the different schools. In
St. Mary's C.E. and St. John's Schools there are oldfashioned
trough closets (the latter has 2 good pedestal
closets in addition). This is not a good type of convenience,
but they appear to be in good working order
and cannot be called insanitary. In St. Mary's R.C.
School the closets are of the old-fashioned boxed-in type
and the woodwork and the latrines generally have a
shabby unhygienic appearance, although I should not
describe them as insanitary.
In the other schools the conveniences are satisfactory,
some, such as Garden Suburb and Wessex Gardens,
being of a particularly good and up-to-date type.
Water Supply.—
The public supply is laid on to every school and is
satisfactory.
