The Schick and Dick tests and the corresponding methods
of immunisation have not been made use of. In my opinion
knowledge regarding these measures has net yet reached the
stage which would warrant their adoption in a routine or
wholesale fashion in this district. I would make use of them
in special circumstances which, seemed to call for their use
but so far these circumstances do not appear to me to have
arisen.
No case of Small-pox occurred during the 5 year period
and no vaccinations have been performed by the Medical
Officer of Health under the Public Health (Small-Pox prevention)
Regulations, 1917.
DISINFECTION (1925).
464 Infected rooms disinfected by spraying with a solution
of formalin or by vapourising of Formaldehyde Tablets.
19 Infected rooms cleansed, viz.:—Wallpapers stripped
from walls, and ceiliings whitewashed in compliance with
notices served under the Infectious Diseases (Prevention)
Act, 1890.
Articles of bedding and clothing, etc., disinfected, viz.:—
516 beds and mattresses, 958 blankets, and 4,139 various
other articles.
The disinfection of clothing, bedding, etc., was performed
at the disinfection station by steam in a Washington Lyons
Apparatus.
The collection and return of these articles was colnducted
by the Sanitary Department with a covered motor van.
NON-NOTIFIABLE ACUTE INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
There have been considerable epidemics of Measles,
Whooping Cough, Chicken Pox and Mumps during the last
5 years.
1921 was specially marked by Mumps, Chicken Pox and
Whooping Cough.
In 1922 none of the non-notifiable diseases was unduly
prevalent,
