SMOKE ABATEMENT.
Only a few complaints have been received with regard
to smoke nuisances.
The nuisances were of a minor character and intermittent,
due largely at the time to the use of unsuitable fuel.
After cautions were administered the nuisances were
abated.
At one Laundry the nuisance was due to insufficient boiler
capacity and an additional boiler was provided.
PREMISES AND OCCUPATIONS WHICH CAN BE
CONTROLLED BY BYE-LAWS OR REGULATIONS.
There are no Common Lodging Houses or Offensive
Trades in the District.
No Bye-laws with regard to Houses let in Lodgings have
been adopted.
Slaughterhouses, and Dairies, Cowsheds and Milkshops
are dealt with under the Food Section of this Report.
SCHOOLS.
Generally speaking the sanitary condition of the schools
is very good. They are all supplied by the public water
supply.
During the last five years the sanitary accommodation in
several of the public elementary schools has been improved
and brought up to date.
No action has been necessary on the part of the Sanitary
Authority in connection with the schools beyond the exclusion
of children suffering from notifiable infectious diseases and
their contacts. This subject is more fully dealt with in my
report to the Education Committee.
