His estimate for 1923 is only 760 above his estimate for
1922. The natural increase of population (excess of births
over deaths) in 1922 was 486 and in 1923 was 476. The
Registrar General's estimate of the increase of population
between the middle of 1922 and the middle of 1923 is therefore
less than 300 above the annual natural increase and so
allows very little for increase by immigration, whereas, everyone
acquainted with the district knows that the annual increase
by immigration is very large. Between 1st July,
1922, and 30th June, 1923, 687 new dwellings were taken into
occupation.
