The houses in the district are nearly all on the water
carriage system; only a very few outlying houses, from about
20 to 30, have a dry earth closet. The water closets in the
new houses are of the " Short Hopper" L.C.C. pattern, washdown
type. In the older houses the "Long Hopper" and
" Spiral Flush" type of closet basin is being removed, and
a modern type substituted.
