sanitary report,
1898.
To the Chairman and Members of the Hendon Urban District Council.
Gentlemen,
I have the honour to present to you my Sanitary Report for
the year 1898.
During the year a good deal of sickness has occurred, a mild
type of Scarlet Fever having prevailed in Central Hendon, extending
over a long period. So mild was it that numerous cases were
found parading the streets and attending the schools, without
having had to lay up. This, of course, spread the disease about
broadcast, and great difficulty was experienced in eliminating it.
During the excessive heat that was experienced during
August and September a very serious epidemic of Diarrhoea occurred
in nearly every quarter of the parish, and caused a very high
mortality in children under one year of age.
