WATER SUPPLY.
The Water Supply has been analysed by me and found on
each occasion to be of good quality, and free from organic pollution.
I am glad to say that the West Middlesex Water Works
have at last conceded a boon to the inhabitants by giving a constant
supply. I hope that the time will soon come when every
house will have a supply pipe direct from the main, and so do
away with the risk that is necessary entailed by the use of, in
most cases, dirty unwholesome water from foul cisterns.
INSPECTION OF COWSHEDS.
In view of the result of experiments recently investigated, it is
of the utmost importance that rigid inspection of all cowsheds in
the districts should take place periodically as well as a pathological
inspection of the milk itself. As regards the cowsheds,
they have all been inspected. In many cases the cubic space was
not sufficient, and in some cases the ventilation of the sheds was
at fault. Cleanliness, another important factor, was in many
cases wanting. Another important alteration in the law is also
required, and that is that local authorities should have the power
to inspect at any time cowsheds and dairies situated outside their
own district, when the milk from such cowsheds or dairy is
imported into their district.
