cancer. This home is a most worthy one, and one that is kept in
most excellent order and is in a sound sanitary condition.

INFANT MORTALITY.
One hundred and six children died under one year, as against
105 in 1897. This gives the rather high infant mortality of 151
per 1,000, which is still an improvement upon the last two years,
when the figures stood at 200 in 1897 and 160 in 1896.
The highest rate was at West Hendon, the figure there being
268 per 1,000. This may not be exactly correct, but is approximately
so, as the returns of the births in this particular district
were mixed up with Burnt Oak and Central Hendon during the
first two months of the year. Burnt Oak comes next with 250
per 1,000, and Mill Hill is at the bottom with only 60 per 1,000.
