the issue if the premises are not suitable and convenient, in
view of their character and condition and the size and nature
of the club.
The Council appointed its Public Health Inspectors as
"authorised officers" under the Act. Twelve applications for
the issue or renewal of a licence were investigated and all the
premises were found to be satisfactory.
Noise Abatement.
London Airport is by far the greatest source of noise in
the District; aircraft however are exempt from the provisions
of the Noise Abatement Act. Various bodies have made strenuous
and persistent efforts to get the nuisance mitigated but with
little effect.
The statutory undertakings (gas, water, electricity, etc.)
are also substantial, if intermittent, contributors to the
general noise level with their pneumatic road drills.
Five complaints of noise nuisance were received. Three
referred to noises from local factories and every effort was
made to minimise the nuisance. The other two referred to continued
excessive noise due to starting private motor vehicles
late at night and the persons concerned were persuaded to be
more co-operative neighbours.
