Improvement Grants.
Only nine applications for Standard Grants were received
and all were granted.
Two applications for Discretionary Grants were received
and the maximum grant approved in each case.
Consideration was given by the Council to Circular 42/62
in which the Minister of Housing and Local Government urged
Local Authorities to take positive action to stimulate applications
for grants, and to consider, if necessary, the use of
compulsory purchase powers so that the Council could do the
improvement themselves. The Council agreed in principle with
the Minister's suggestions and authorised me to submit proposals
for putting them into effect.
Moveable Dwellings.
To avoid involving both the Public Health Committee and
Town Planning Committee in this matter and as planning consent
is an essential preliminary to a site licence, the enforcement
of the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act, 1960, has
been entrusted to the Town Planning Committee. Consultation
between the Engineer and Surveyor's Department and the Public
Health Department takes place on applications for Site Licences.
