PART IV - HOUSING
The 5-year programme for the clearance of unfit houses was
completed, so far as the Public Health Department was concerned,
in 1958. Re-housing of the tenants of condemned houses was
however still in progress at the end of 1959 and likely to continue
until well into 1960.
A further 28 houses which had become unfit since the 5-year
programme was drawn up were reported to the Council and it was
agreed that they should be dealt with during 1960 and 1961.
The routine inspection of houses under the Housing and
Public Health Acts was carried out to a limited extent throughout
the year. One would like to do much more of this work but
the staff have been fully occupied on more pressing matters.
