During the year 261 treatments were carried out at dwelling
houses and 98 at business premises.
Destruction of Vermin and Insect Pests.
The abnormally hot summer caused a noticeable change in the
pattern of infestation. Nine cases of bug infestation were
dealt with against five last year whilst the number of wasps
nests destroyed increased from eight to forty three.
During the year the following treatments were carried out:-
Wasps Nests 43
Ants 4
Bugs 9
Fleas 2
Disinfection.
In accordance with current practice terminal disinfection
of premises or personal property is no longer carried out except
in the case of the more serious infectious diseases of which
tuberculosis is a typical example. All library books however,
which have been in infected premises are disinfected before
they are returned to the library.
Facilities for the steam disinfection of bedding are available
when required at St. John's Hospital, Uxbridge, but it has
not been necessary to use these facilities during the year.
Ponds, Ditches, Watercourses, etc.
These sites are regularly inspected for rodent infestation,
pollution, general nuisances and, particularly in summer, mosquitoes.
When adverse conditions are found remedial action is
taken.
During the year two ponds, which have, in the past, been
frequent sources of trouble, were filled in.
