asking for additional protection against tetanus. The figures

1959 are given by courtesy of the Area Medical Officer on page

Maternity and Child Welfare Services etc.
These are administered by the Middlesex County Council and
there are numerous sessions for ante-natal and post-natal care,
child welfare, immunisation and school health services in clinic
buildings, church halls, schools and the mobile clinic.
Medical Examinations of Council Employees.
The total number of examinations carried out during 1959
was 140. Of these 27 were for superannuation purposes alone,
36 for admission to the Council's Sick Pay Scheme, 49 for Sick
Pay and Superannuation and 28 for various special purposes.
Water Supply.
Two companies, the Rickmansworth & Uxbridge Valley Water
Company and South West Suburban District Water Company supply
water to this district. The supply is adequate and samples
taken during the year have reached a satisfactory standard. One
property inthis district is still supplied by a well, but action
is now being taken to connect the house to a mains supply.
Establishments for Massage S Special Treatment.
Six establishments (five for chiropody and one for physiotherapy)
are registered under the provisions of the Middlesex
County Council Act, 1944. All are satisfactory, but trouble is
encountered from time to time in dealing with applications for
registration by unsuitable persons who have received inadequate
training e.g. tuition carried out by correspondence. Existing
legislation is not helpful and there appears to be no encouragement
for an authority to maintain a high standard of service.
