SECTION E.
INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD.
(a) Milk Supply.
One hundred and sixty-eight visits of inspection have
been made to the cowsheds and dairies in the district, which
have been maintained in fair condition. There are approximately
240 milch cows in the district.
Inspection of dairy cattle by a veterinary inspector for
the detection of tuberculous animals is undertaken by the
County Council.
A total of 13 samples of milk was submitted for bacterial
count. In cases where a large count was recorded visits to
the farms or dairies were made and advice given on the
necessity for exercising greater care in the cleanliness of
the premises and the sterilization of utensils. Subsequent
samples showed a decided improvement.
No milk to which any of the titles specified in the Milk
(Special Designations) Order, 1923, is applied is produced in
the district, but such grades of milk are retailed in this area.
