CONSUMER PROTECTION ACTS 19&1 - 1971
The Consumer Protection Act 1961 gives power to the Secretary of State
to make regulations governing the safety requirements and constructions
of certain goods to prevent or reduce risk of death or personal injury.
Existing regulations cover a wide range of consumer goods and during
the year the Cooking Utensils (Safety) Regulations 1972 came into force.
Eleven Toy Samples were submitted to the Public Analyst during the year
and five of these proved to contain excessive quantities of lead in the
paint.

Five hundred and six routine visits were made in connection with the various Regulations.

Offices, Shops & Railway Premises Act 1963
This Act prescribes minimum standards for safety, health and welfare in
commercial and other non industrial workplaces.
Premises registered under the Act are inspected by the Shops and Offices
Inspectors or in the case of Food Premises, by the District Public Health
Inspectors.
