and its responsibilities transferred to the Regional Water
Authorities, so that the inland waterways can be more closely
integrated into the system of river management.
The London Borough of Havering will become part of the
area of Regional Water Authority No.6, which not only includes
the whole of the Greater London area but also parts of Essex
and Kent, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Buckinghamshire,
Hertfordshire and virtually the whole of Surrey, Berkshire and
Oxfordshire. Regional Water Authority No.6 will also assume the
pollution control functions at present exercised by the Port of
London and the Greater London Council.
