second, at Guys field Drive, provided accommodation for 56 old
people, plus the Warden's flat. Four O.P. dwellings remain to be
completed in January, 1971. Both schemes include communal
amenities such as a lounge with small kitchen to encourage the
occupants to mix socially, a laundry and a Visitor's Bedroom for
those visitors needing to stay overnight or for a few days in cases
of emergency."
Local Authority Housing Accommodation
The Housing Manager informs me that the 353 new dwellings
completed during the year included two Warden controlled complex
—Lime Court and Will Perrin Court—providing 65 flats for
O.A.P.s and 61 one-bedroomed flats in Hamilton Drive, Newtons
Corner and Squirrels Heath Road being primarily for pensioners.
Twelve pensioners were rehoused following nomination by
the Health and Welfare Department, most of them being provided
with warden controlled flats.
Nineteen families were rehoused from hostel accommodation
at 42/44 Brentwood Road.
26 homeless families were rehoused, including two families
whose premises had been badly damaged by fire.
At the end of the year the housing waiting list included
2,821 applications on the main list, 279on the supplementary list,
and 418 on the engaged couples list.
The total number of properties under management at 31st
December, 1970 was 11,701, together with 2,124 lock-up garages
and 1,371 hard standings.
Housing Priority on Medical Grounds
353 applications for medical priority in connection with
rehousing were received during the year, 216 were in respect of
registrations on the waiting list and 137 were from existing
tenants requesting transfer to alternative accommodation.
