HOME HELP SERVICE
There has been no change in the arrangements for the
supervision of the Home Help Service which were set out in my
Report for 1969. The four Home Help Organisers assess the
need for the service and allocate the services of the 400 parttime
helps accordingly. The co-ordination of the service within
these four areas and the allied Night Attendant and Good Neighbour
services are undertaken by the Senior Home Help Organiser.
In-service training for groups of home helps arranged at
the Havering Technical College has now been functioning regularly
for a number of years.
Statistics relating to the service are as follows:-
Requests for help from new cases during the year | 1118 | 1097 |
Cases not eligible for assistance or not requiring services | 315 | 335 |
New cases helped during the year | 798 | 759 |
Persons being helped at the end of the year | 2037 | 1791 |
Total number of persons helped during the year | 2982 | 2673 |
Total number of hours of help provided during the year | 307988 | 305184 |
The equivalent figures for the previous year are shown for
comparison and it will be noted that the number of cases helped
and the hours of help given were slightly higher in 1970.
Night Attendant Service
Only three patients were assisted by this service during
the year, the total number of hours involved being 144. The
demand on the service fluctuates from year toyear and, of course,
a number of requests for such assistance are dealt with by the
Marie Curie Memorial Fund which provides a night attendance
service for patients suffering from carcinoma.
During the year 36 patients were provided with night attendants
by this Fund, the total number of hours being 3,056. In
addition, four patients were given extra nourishment grants by
the Fund, and two were admitted to Marie Curie Homes. This
voluntary organisation receives a grant of £350 from Havering
Council.
