Following requests from the Government for Local Authorities
to restrict expenditure on the grounds of national economy the
Council deferred consideration of the proposed No.6 Smoke
Control Order for 12 months — until 1971 — consequently the
latest date for completion of our smoke control programme is
now 1975 and this will only be achieved if present progress is
maintained and there are no further curtailments.
The following table gives details of Smoke Control Orders which were in operation at the end of the year: —
