(Note: The crude birth and death rates are 17.38 and 8.33 respectively.
The rates given above have been adjusted by the area
comparability factors of 0.92 for births and 1.29 for deaths. Comparison
with the rates for previous years has not been attempted
as the former areas of Romford and Hornchurch had differing
area comparability factors. The comparability factors supplied by
the Registrar-General make allowances for the way in which the
sex and age distribution of the local population differs from that
of England and Wales as a whole, and in addition, the death rate
factor is adjusted specifically to take account of the presence of
any residential institutions in each area. After multiplication by
the comparability factors, the local crude birth and death rates
are comparable with the crude rate for England and Wales and
with the corresponding adjusted rate for any other area.)
