Infectious Diseases
W.T. Orton, Deputy Medical Officer of Health
Measles
During the year 440 cases were notified—less than half those for 1971. This is encouraging, but in view of the
availability and effectiveness of measles vaccination, it indicates that there is still a considerable amount of
unnecessary suffering from this cause.
Dysentery and Food Poisoning
Food poisoning organism isolated during the year included Salmonella enteritidis and typhimurium. Staphyloccal
food poisoning was also reported.
