Rodent Control
Details of the rodent control measures in the sewers are shown in the table. In addition to the
sewer baiting programme, control of rats and mice is implemented wherever they are found. An
aspect of this work which has accelerated during the past year has been the spread of strains of
rats and mice resistant to the poisons which have previously been successful. New poisons have
been developed and have proved successful in many cases. People no longer keep cats in anything
like the numbers previously experienced and this has made the control measures more difficult.
Close liaison is maintained with the Pest Control Unit, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
and with the rodent officers in adjoining Boroughs.
The services of the Council's rodent operatives are provided free of charge for the treatment of
infestations in domestic premises. A charge to cover the cost of the operator's time and the
materials used is made for the treatment of other premises.
