Meat Inspection
One of the two slaughterhouses in the Borough was severely damaged by a gale in December 1966
and the remnants of the building were subsequently pulled down. It is understood that the proprietors
intend to submit proposals for the building of a new slaughterhouse on the same site. The other
slaughterhouse undertakes regular slaughtering of pigs, goats, sheep and calves, and a 100 per centinspection
of animals slaughtered is carried out by fourteen public health inspectors who work on a rota
to cover morning, afternoon and evening sessions.
