The preparation, storage and sale of food are
controlled by regulations and byelaws made under the
Food and Drugs Act. These deal with matters such
as the construction, repair and maintenance of premises,
the cleanliness of apparatus and equipment, and
hygienic methods in the handling of the food. 495
visits were made to the various premises to ensure that
the requirements of the regulations and byelaws were
satisfied and generally to encourage better standards
of food hygiene.
Improvements were effected to premises as

Food inspection.
Five complaints were received during the year
concerning foodstuffs which were not in a sound
condition when purchased or which contained foreign
bodies. In one case proceedings were taken resulting
in a fine of £25 with £5. 5. 0. costs.
