Colindale, but also the Laboratory at Coppetts Wood
Hospital. I gratefully acknowledge the assistance
afforded throughout the year, and the close co-operation
which has continued for so many years between the
Public Health Department and the Laboratory Service.
Summary of the work carried out at the Public
Health Laboratories for the year:

Section 50. Burial or cremntion of the dead.
No action was necessary under this section
during 1961.
PREVALENCE AND CONTROL OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
From the table of infectious diseases set
out on page 38 it will be seen that U.&9 cases of
infectious diseases-were notified during the year, as
against 120 in 1960. The Infectious Sickness Rote
for the year was therefore 17.2 as compared with 4.18
for the previous year.
The increase in the number of infectious
diseases during the year was entirely due to the fact
that 1961 was a "measles year".
