From this work the following improvements
resulted:-

Food inspection.
There are no licensed slaughterhouses in
Friern Barnet and consequently no post-mortem
inspection of food animals. In common with
other local authorities the Council was required
during the year to consider and, after consultation
with the interests concerned, report to the
Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food as to
the existing and future requirements of the district
in the way of slaughtering facilities. This
report, to the effect that there is no local
demand for slaughtering facilities, was accepted
by the Minister.
Of the food examined at shops and stores
the undermentioned was certified to be unfit for
human consumption:-
Beef 273 lbs.
Lamb 88 lbs.
Veal 45 lbs.
Liver 8 lbs.
Fish 126 lbs.
Chickens 110 lbs.
Rabbits 35 lbs.
Biscuits 2 lbs.
