Attention was given to the subject of food
hygiene in all these food trades, substantially on
the same lines as in previous years. Visits were
made to the premises as often as possible, not only
to see that the Food Hygiene Regulations and Byelaws
relating to the handling of food were complied with,
but generally to encourage higher standards of hygiene.
A consequence of these visits was that premises and
equipment were improved and, no doubt, benefit also
resulted from the'contacts and conversations with
the food handlers.
The following is a brief summary of defects
repaired and improvements effected to premises:-

Ventilation improved 12 "

Food Inspection.
There are no licensed slaughterhouses in Friern
Barnet and, except after the occasional emergency
slaughter of a sick or injured animal at one or other
of the piggeries in the District, no post-mortem
examination of food animals.
Of the food examined at the shops and stores
the following was condemned as unfit for human
consumption:-
