This is the explanation for the apparent increase in the
Death Rates recorded in the last few years.
An analysis of the various causes of death will
be found at the end of the Report.

GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES.
Hospitals.
The situation in regard to the availability of
hospital beds is still more or less the same as that
recorded in recent Annual Reports. Difficulties met
with still centre around the provision of sufficient
beds for the chronic sick, particularly the elderly
chronic sick.
So far as the provision of beds for the chronic,
elderly sick is concerned, this is a matter which I am
pursuing with the utmost vigour. I have never hesitated
to make this matter known to the authorities concerned.
Fortunately, the hospital which provides the geriatric
service for the bulk of Friern Barnet, the Whittington
