FOOD & DRUGS ACT, 1955
Food Hygiene (General) Regulations, 1960
The above-named Regulations, which came into operation on the 1st October, 1960,
amended and consolidated the Regulations of 1955—1957, and brought within their
scope the handling and service of food on board home going ships and certain other
vessels.
These food hygiene regulations lay down requirements in respect of the cleanliness
of food premises and stalls, and of apparatus and equipment, the hygienic handling of
food, the cleanliness of persons engaged in the handling of food and of their clothing,
and the action to be taken where they suffer from or are carriers of certain infections;
the construction of food premises, their repair and maintenance and the facilities
including sinks and wash basins to be provided; and the temperature at which certain
foods are to be kept.
1. Number of Inspections:
The Public Health Inspectors continued a survey of food premises and during
the year, 1,145 visits were made to shops and other premises in order to ascertain
compliance with the Regulations, and arising therefrom 185 contraventions were found,
and 59 letters sent and 56 verbal notices given in connection therewith.
