The complaints were investigated promptly and in those cases in
which the Council had power to intervene the necessary steps were
taken to remove the cause of the complaint.
Middlesex County Council Act, 1956
The above-mentioned Act which came into operation on the
2nd August, 1956, contains many new useful provisions especially in
relation to the power to repair drains and private sewers, to remedy
stopped up drains, etc., to the supply of water to premises where the
supply has been cut off and to the cleansing or destruction of filthy
or verminous articles.
Places of Public Entertainment
The cinemas, dance halls and other places of public entertainment
have been inspected, special attention being given to the condition
and adequacy of the sanitary accommodation. The defects discovered
as a result of these inspections were remedied after notice had been
given to the persons responsible. Eighteen premises were inspected
