limited in 1956 to the staff of one firm in North Finchley. 137 persons
were X-Rayed.
Medical Examinations
Thirty-one persons were examined on appointment to the Council's
staff and 11 workmen were examined with a view to their
admission to the Councils' Sickness Pay Scheme.
National Assistance Act, 1948
(a) Section 47
Cases continued to be brought to the notice of the Department
of persons who were living in insanitary surroundings and who were
not receiving proper care and attention. In one instance it was
necessary to take emergency action in respect of an elderly lady,
aged 91 years, and a Magistrate's order for her removal to Barnet
General Hospital was obtained. An Extension Order was found not
to be necessary as she was declared fit for discharge and arrangements
were made for her to live with a relative in the South of England.
