cases of tuberculosis and in trying to stem the spread of infection
whenever a source comes to light.
When a case occurs in a school a thorough investigation
which, in the light of experience, has now assumed a more or less
stereotyped pattern is carried out on the following lines:—
After consultation with the Chest Physician and the Head
Teacher a letter is sent to parents by the Area Medical Officer
requesting their permission to have their children patch tested
and in the event of the test proving positive to have the children
X-rayed. The children are tested in school with the assistance of
the Chest Clinic Staff. The families of all positive children are
investigated and the children themselves are X-rayed at the Chest
Clinic or at the Mobile X-Ray Unit if it happens to be in the
neighbourhood. Ail the school staff are also X-rayed.
In each case up to now the co-operation of everyone concerned
has been complete.
