During the year, 600 children were immunised by General
Practitioners and Medical Officers of the Local Health Authority.
Seven children were given "booster" doses of Whooping Cough
vaccine.
Pneumonia
Forty-nine cases were notified in 1953 and there were 39
deaths, 29 of which were persons of 65 years of age and over.
Malaria
Two cases of malaria in children were notified. They had
arrived from the Gold Coast for a short holiday a fortnight
previously.
Puerperal Pyrexia
The total number of cases notified during the year was 56.
Fifty-five cases occurred at the North Middlesex Hospital Annexe
in The Bishop's Avenue and the remaining one, at home.

Paratyphoid B 1
Typhoid 2
Vaccination against Smallpox
The number of persons vaccinated for the first time by
General Practitioners and Medical Officers of the Local Health
Authority was five hundred and sixty. Ninety persons were
re-vaccinated.
