Maternal Mortality
There were no maternal deaths in 1952.
Deaths
There were 782 deaths in 1952—95 less than 1951. A comparable
drop took place over the whole country. The standardised
death rate was 10.2, and the death rate for England and Wales was
11.3. The decrease in the mortality rate in Finchley was largely
accounted for by a decline in the number of deaths from diseases
of the heart and blood vessels. Influenza, Nephritis and accidents.
There were 32 fewer deaths in the age group 65-75 years and
59 less in ages over 75. Out of the total of 782 deaths 530 were
of persons over 65 years of age.
Mortuary
One hundred and twenty-five bodies were received in the
Mortuary, and 25 of these were from Friern Barnet. Post-mortem
examinations were carried out in all cases
