Inspections
The total number of inspections made during the year was
15,908. At 827 of the houses and other premises visited, defects
or nuisances to the number of 3,784 were discovered, and at the
end of the year 3,031, including a number outstanding at the end
of 1949, had been remedied or abated. The work in connection
with 146 was in hand and 2,322 were outstanding. In order to
ascertain that the sanitary defects were being properly remedied
1,947 visits were paid to the respective premises while the work
was in progress.
Once again I must draw attention to the serious position
with regard to housing repairs arising from the rising costs of
labour and materials, and the static rents of controlled dwellings.
