Two cases of scabies, one case of impetigo and two of
other skin diseases were found at routine inspections, while
at special inspections, 1 case of ringworm of the body, 73
cases of impetigo, 28 cases of scabies and 25 of other skin
diseases were discovered.
(d) Visual Defects and External Eye Disease.
Forty-six or 3.02% of the children at routine inspections'
were found to be suffering from some fairly serious defect of
vision while 8 others were found at special inspections.
A considerable number of children who had already been
supplied with spectacles were referred to the School Oculist
as a result of re-examination. In all 202 children were referred
for refraction.
Three cases of blepharitis and 1 case of conjunctivitis
were found at routine inspection and at special inspections 1
case of blepharitis, and 16 of conjunctivitis.
(e) Nose and Throat Defects.
At routine medical inspection 14 children were found
to be in need of surgical treatment for enlargement of the
tonsils or adenoids, or both, while 21 were referred for observation.
At special inspections 25 were referred for treatment
and 28 for observation.
(f) Ear Disease and Defective Hearing.
As a result of routine and special examinations, 20
cases of discharging ears were referred for treatment.
(g) Orthopaedic and Postural Defects.
Four cases of deformities were referred for treatment,
and 3 cases of deformities and 1 of spinal curvature were
referred for observation.
