HOUSING.
Thirty-six flats were erected by the Council in 1938 on
the Red Lion Hill site. These flats were filled almost entirely
by overcrowded families and families displaced from
two small clearance areas.
Six large houses to accommodate large overcrowded
families were nearing completion at the end of the year.
At the beginning of the year there were 43 overcrowded
families on the register, 15 new cases were added and 28
cases were alleviated, leaving 30 cases outstanding at the
end of the year.
Sixty-five flats are in course of erection, and it is
anticipated that by the autumn of 1939 all outstanding cases
of overcrowding will have been relieved.
