Ambulance Facilities.
(a) Infectious Cases.—Arrangements have been made
by the Joint Hospital Committee with the London
County Council for the conveyance of all cases of
infectious disease from their homes to the Joint
Isolation Hospital.
(b) Non-Infectious and Accident Cases.—The Council
provide a Motor Ambulance for the conveyance of
non-infectious sick and cases of accident. During
the year the ambulance was called out in connection
with 349 accidents and 490 private cases.
Mortuary.
During 1937, 75 bodies were received in the mortuary,
10 of these belonging to Friern Barnet.
The new mortuary, on the North Circular Road, near
the Fire Station, is nearing completion. This is a thoroughly
modern building equipped with a a refrigerating plant to
ensure that bodies are kept under the best possible conditions.
There is an excellent post-mortem room, a viewing room
constructed in the form of a small chapel, relatives' waiting
room, and doctors' room. It is hoped that the new mortuary
will, in future, be used as a temporary resting place for bodies
which are so frequently retained in small crowded houses or
flats under very unsatisfactory conditions.
