It is estimated that there are in the Borough approximately
4,700 dwelling-houses respecting which no applicacation
had been received at the end of 1936. Steps are being
taken to expedite the recording in the department of the
necessary information in relation to these houses and action
will be taken to ensure reasonable compliance with this provision
of the Housing Act.
Houses Let in Lodgings.
The number of houses let in lodgings on the register
is 64.
During the year there were three houses added to the
register and fourteen were deleted therefrom for the following
reasons, namely:—seven houses were found to be each
occupied by only one family, six houses, including two exceptionally
large premises, were converted into self-contained
flats, and one very large house was demolished and the site
utilised for the building of a block of flats.
Consequent upon the district having assumed the status
of a Municipal Borough, the existing code of byelaws was
repealed and a new code containing somewhat similar provisions
has been submitted to the Minister of Health for
approval.
The usual routine inspection of houses let in lodgings
has been carried out and action has been taken to ensure
reasonable compliance with the byelaws.
Common Lodging Houses.
There are no common lodging houses in the district.
Sanitary Conveniences.
There are 26 conveniences attached to licensed houses
within the district. These premises are inspected periodically.
'There are seven public conveniences in the district. Five
of these conveniences provide accommodation for both sexes
and two accommodation for males onlv.
