Children suffering from ear discharge and defective
hearing- are dealt with at the Minor Ailments Clinic at
Bourchier House. During the year 115 children were treated.
(h) Dental Defects.
A whole-time Dental Surgeon is employed. Ten sessions
per week are devoted to the inspection and treatment of
school children, and one session to the inspection and treatment
of Maternity and Child Welfare cases.
I am indebted to Mr. C. R. Wilshaw, H.D.D. (Edin),
L.D.S. (Eng), the School Dental Officer, for the following
report on the dental scheme.
DENTAL REPORT, 1934.
The Dental Scheme, which embodies regular dental
inspection and remedying of defects, is an important factor
contributing to the health of the school children of Finchley.
The following is an outline of the procedure adopted.
Inspections and Consents to Treatment.
Inspections are carried out annually at the schools, and
parents are invited by notices to be present. As may be
expected it is the parents of the younger children that most
usually attend. The parents that attend are informed of the
treatment required; if they wish their child to be treated by
their private practitioner they are advised to make the
necessary visit without delay, or, if they desire the treatment
to be undertaken at the clinic, they are invited to sign the
consent form. The details of treatment required are recorded
at the time of inspection, and are indicated on the consent
form that is sent to the parents of each child requiring treatment.
Treatment appointments are sent to all who desire
treatment at the clinic as soon as possible after the return
of the form appropriately signed to prevent interest waning
to indifference.
