THE PREVALENCE OF, AND CONTROL OVER
INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
Diphtheria.
The incidence of diphtheria was a little higher in 1934
than in 1933, the numbers notified being 30 compared with 21,
but lower than 1932 when the number was 47. All cases were
removed to hospital. Although the majority were mild a
few cases were very severe and there were two deaths.
Antitoxin for the use of general practitioners is kept at
the Public Health Department, but in 1934 there was little
demand for it.
Scarlet Fever.
In 1934, 175 cases of Scarlet Fever were notified as
compared with 158 in 1933 and 156 in 1932. One hundred and
forty-three cases were removed to hospital. The disease continued
to be mild in nature and in many instances presented
