and have to apply to Wellhouse or one of the London
Hospitals. Application to these hospitals has to be
made early if a bed is to be assured, and between the
time of application and admission the hospitals insist on
the women attending the ante-natal clinics attached to
the hospitals and, in consequence, they cease to attend
the local clinic. It is a considerable hardship for these
ante-natal women to have to make frequent journeys to
Barnet or to London at a time when travelling causes
them considerable discomfort.
Dental Treatment.
Expectant and nursing mothers who are in need of
dental treatment are referred by the doctors at the
Centres to the Council's dentist. Under the Council's
scheme treatment is limited to extractions and fillings,
but the Voluntary Association give assistance to
necessitous mothers to enable them to obtain dentures.
Periodic visits are made by the dentist to the
Centres to carry out inspections of children under school
age, and the necessary treatment is carried out at the
dental clinic.
