D (5)o Eradication of Bed Bugs
Bed bug infestations continue to decrease, the number
of dwellings which were treated being as follows:—
Privately owned houses 5
Corporation houses 6
With a view to obtaining good control, occupiers are
encouraged to reveal any infestations, when every assistance
is given to eradicate the pests.
D (5)p Heating Appliances (Fireguards) Act 1952
and Regulations 1953
Almost without exception, it is found that heating appliances
sold in shops are guaranteed to comply with the
requirements of the Regulations.
Routine visits were made to many vendors' premises
and the probe test applied to 171 appliances, all of which
complied with the statutory requirements.
Special attention is devoted to appliances which are
sold from second hand establishments. Though no safety
factor is provided for in respect of existing appliances under
repair, many electrical shops have been persuaded to include
the safety factor along with the necessary repair work.
D (5)q Mosquito Control
The many ditches which intersect the Belvedere marsh
area were, as usual, kept under constant review during the
year. Many of the watercourses were treated with larvicide,
thus maintaining good control.
No complaints were received during the year.
D(5)r Agriculture (Safety, Health and Welfare Provisions)
Act 1956.
Section 3 and 5 of the above Act which place duties
on Local Authorities in connection with the provision of
sanitary conveniences at farms and similar premises, have,
so far as is possible, been implemented. The requisite action
includes enforcement of a suitable and sufficient number
of conveniences, and their proper maintenance at all times.
